We had a wonderful first day in Flagstaff. A bit chilly at 32 degrees this morning, but no snow on the ground, and the furnace in our camper keeps everything cozy. Rob’s biking buddy Derald (who lives in Flagstaff) picked us up and took us to a great little place for breakfast. Derald has been a wonderful source of information and suggestions for our day trips from Flagstaff.

Our first destination was Walnut Canyon National Monument. We took the 1 mile hike through 25 ancient cliff dwellings. The canyon is 20 miles long, 400 ft deep, and 1/4 mile wide. These dwellings were amazingly well preserved sites that were home to an isolated Pueblo community of possibly hundreds, believed to have lived there from 600 to 1400AD.

Our next destination was Sedona. The scenery on the trip down into the city was amazing. The city itself is what you would expect of a tourist town; lots of people, shops, art galleries, restaurants, etc. but the surrounding landscape was beautiful. We stopped for lunch which included a delicious chocolate leche cake presented in a tin can ( of course I have to take a few food photos 😉), and I did also happen to purchase a pair of shoes 😂. So it WAS a great afternoon. This evening we joined Derald and Cheryl for a glass of wine at Derald’s before calling it a day.
